I just uploaded my second grade suffix unit… so I’m going to show you EVERYTHING included! If you’re looking for activities to use with first graders you can find that HERE!
All of my units are organized by days… but of course, change it up to meet the needs of your students.
Day 1 – Day 1 begins with a mini- lesson, fun song, and creating an anchor chart!
Day 2 – On day 2 students create an interactive notebook page. I love doing this on day two because my students always refer back to it!
Day 3 – Suffix Puzzles
Kids ALWAYS love puzzles! These puzzles were a pain to cut… but I use mine year after year! To solve these puzzles students must match the root word to the correct suffix. If you don’t have time to complete these puzzles during whole group, they’re great as a center or station when you’re in guided reading groups. (These puzzles build off of the first grade puzzles!)
Day 4 – Suffix Puzzles Set 2
Day 5 – Suffix Board Game – My students LOVE games and this one is super easy to prep! I like to pull out all of my games over and over throughout the year for review and extra practice! To play this game, students get with partners. One student uses a paperclip and pencil to spin a suffix, move to the next word with the suffix, and then uses the word in a sentence.
Day 6 – Roll and Write a Suffix – Students use paper to make their own die. Then, they roll a suffix , write a word with the suffix, and use what they know about the meaning of the suffix to write the definition of the word.
Day 7 – Task Cards – I mean… who doesn’t love task cards? I like to put them all over my room and let my students use their clip boards. To complete these task card
Day 8 is the cutest craft… I love a quick and easy craft that gives students the opportunity to apply what they have learned!
And… last but not least… A quick assessment.
You can find all of these activities HERE in my TpT shop! Or by clicking on the picture below!!!
Have a great week!
